Marty Kiepe has been named the new head coach of the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team.
Kiepe replaces John Petersen, who resigned from the position at the end of last season after coaching the Jaguars since 2019.
“This was kind of a last-minute thing,” said Kiepe. “I’m very close with coach (Andrew) Reedy, the Centennial boys’ coach. We worked together for a number of years, and this was kind of an idea that he spearheaded. He really sparked my interest and got me excited.”
Kiepe owns a degree in golf course management and operations, but this will be his first coaching job at the high school level.
“I ran private golf courses for about 10 years,” he said. “We were in Scottsdale and then Denver and eventually worked our way back to Iowa, but I got out of golf about four years ago.”
Kiepe works as a commercial loan portfolio manager at Northwest Bank in Ankeny. He said about 25 girls have signed up for the team, which begins practice in mid-March.
“I’ve taught a lot of golf to kids all the way to adults, but I wanted to apply that more to coaching and get back to the game a little bit,” Kiepe said. “We’re only about a month away from getting started. I’m excited to get going and hit the ground running.”
