There appears to be a future star on the Ankeny Centennial boys’ tennis team.
Freshman Will Blevins made his varsity debut on Thursday as the Jaguars opened their season with a 10-1 victory at Southeast Polk in a CIML Central Conference dual meet.
Blevins rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Blake Beaune in the No. 1 singles match. He then teamed up with James Cole for another win at No. 2 doubles.
“He was like a machine,” Centennial coach Tami Lewton said of Blevins.
Centennial won all six of the singles matches in straight sets. The Jaguars dropped a total of just 15 games in singles play.
Southeast Polk’s lone victory came at No. 4 doubles, where the Rams prevailed in three sets.
“I was very happy with our play,” Lewton said. “We had several varsity first-timers, and some of the new guys came out a little tight, but after the first sets battled strong. Our doubles teams continue to improve, and I am very happy with some of the pairings.”
