It was a dominant performance by the Ankeny Centennial boys’ tennis team.
The Jaguars romped to an 11-0 victory over visiting Des Moines East in a non-conference meet on Friday. They won all 11 matches in straight sets, losing a total of just 20 games in the process.
Centennial recorded a “double bagel” in five of the matches.
“The guys came ready to compete and did a great job playing their game instead of adjusting to their opponents,” said Centennial coach Grant Menadue. “I’m really proud of how they backed up their win from earlier this week by not only starting strong but also finishing with the same intensity. East has some talented players and a phenomenal coach, but our guys handled business by keeping the pressure on and never giving them an opening.”
The Jaguars improved to 2-1 on the season. East’s record fell to 0-3.
Centennial will face Ankeny (1-1) in a CIML Conference meet on Tuesday.
“I’m proud of the way this team showed up all week, and now the focus is on carrying that same energy and momentum into next week,” Menadue said.
