For many years, Tim Olson served as an assistant coach for the Ankeny boys’ basketball team.
His son, Lute, was a tennis standout for the Hawks.
On Saturday, the Olsons teamed up to help bring the season to an end for the Ankeny girls’ tennis squad. The father-son duo is now coaching at Boone, which handed the Hawkettes a 5-0 loss in the semifinals of a Class 2A regional team tournament at Dowling Catholic.
“We had a fun match with Boone,” said Ankeny coach Katie Owens, whose team finished with a 4-6 record. “The girls fought hard.”
Boone (8-4) then dropped a 5-1 decision to Dowling in the regional final. The Maroons will play in the first round of the state tournament on Monday at Ankeny.
