Ankeny Centennial track standout Katie Petersen is one of the recipients of the 2020 Track Guy Foundation Scholarship awards.
Petersen was among 47 Iowa high school seniors involved in track and field and/or cross country who applied for the scholarship. From those applicants, seven winners were selected by the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
Each of the winners will receive a $500 award.
“What each of you have accomplished, thus far in your life, is nothing short of amazing, and I know the best is yet to come,” said Mike Jay, the voice of the Drake Relays and co-founder of Track Guy Foundation and Next Level Iowa. “Best of luck to you in the future and stay safe and healthy!”
Petersen is one of the state’s top hurdlers. She has signed a letter of intent to join Iowa’s track and field program in the fall.
Petersen was a four-time placewinner at last year’s Class 4A state meet, where she helped the Jaguars to a tie for 12th place–the best finish in program history. She placed fourth in the 100 hurdles in 14.77 seconds and also ran on the fourth-place shuttle hurdle, fifth-place sprint medley and sixth-place distance medley relays.
Petersen also took fifth in the 100 hurdles at last year’s Drake Relays, where she set a school record of 14.70.
