Ankeny placed in Class 4A Substate 1, while Centennial is in Substate 7

The Class 4A substate baseball assignments have been announced by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

Fourth-ranked Ankeny (18-6) has been placed in Substate 1 along with Des Moines North (0-22), Sioux City East (22-4), Sioux City North (7-21), Sioux City West (10-13) and Valley (12-12). The Hawks, who placed second in Class 4A a year ago, are seeking a third consecutive trip to the state tournament.

Ankeny Centennial (15-11)–which has never qualified for state–has been placed in Substate 7 along with Des Moines East (5-20), Des Moines Roosevelt (16-10), Indianola (18-8), No. 3 Johnston (23-3) and Marshalltown (6-19). The Dragons are the defending state champions.

The substate pairings will be announced at a later date.
