Ankeny Centennial senior Elle Street wanted to play basketball in college.
She also wanted to play soccer.
Luckily for her, she didn’t have to make a choice.
Street has verbally committed to play both sports for Simpson College next year. She announced her decision via Twitter on Monday.
“I mainly kept my options open so I was looking at just playing one sport,” said Street. “But I came to a point where I really couldn’t see myself not playing the two sports I love, and Simpson gives me that opportunity.”
Street has been a key player for the Jaguars’ basketball squad since her freshman year. She has helped the team to a 5-0 record and a No. 5 ranking in Class 5A this season, averaging 4.8 points and 2.0 assists per game.
Street is a strong defender both on the basketball court and on the soccer pitch. Last spring, she helped the Centennial girls’ soccer team to an 18-3 record and a trip to the Class 3A semifinals, where the Jaguars lost to eventual champion Valley.
Street had three goals and two assists as a junior. She was a second-team all-conference pick after earning similar honors on the hardwood last year.
“I had some options but Simpson just felt right to me,” Street said. “A lot of people have told me about the ‘you’ll just know feeling’ that you get, and after going up to visit a few times I got that feeling of this is where I’m supposed to be. I really like the coaches, teammates and family atmosphere that is on both teams.
“I felt like Simpson was where I was really wanted,” she added.
