The Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team didn’t waste any time on Saturday.
The Jaguars cruised to a 5-0 victory over visiting Des Moines Lincoln in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal.
“We hit five wins in singles, so we didn’t have to go to doubles,” said Centennial coach Alli Gustafson.
Esther Guan, Jenna Benkufsky, Ara Lofgren, Morgan DenBeste and Madison Price each won their matches in straight sets. The Jaguars improved to 8-3 on the season.
The Railsplitters (4-10) won a total of just 11 games in the five matches that were completed.
“Everyone played very well,” Gustafson said. “It was fun to see the girls relax and play with confidence.”
The Jaguars will face Council Bluffs Lincoln (17-6) on Tuesday at Johnston at 9 a.m. in the semifinal round. Fifth-ranked Johnston (7-2) will meet Council Bluffs Jefferson (7-15) in the other semifinal, with the two winners to collide in the regional final at 1 p.m.
“We are looking forward to Tuesday’s match!” Gustafson said.
