The Fort Dodge baseball team had a huge outburst in the sixth inning of Tuesday’s doubleheader against visiting Ankeny Centennial.
Then the Jaguars responded with one of their own.
After the Dodgers rallied for eight runs in the sixth to post a 14-12 victory in the opener, Centennial used an 11-run sixth to win the nightcap, 13-2, in six innings and salvage a split of the twinbill.
“I was very proud of how the guys responded,” said Centennial coch Mark Hey.
Easton Pratt (2-0) tossed a four-hitter in the second game. He walked two and had nine strikeouts.
“He threw an absolute gem,” Hey said.
Kyle Miller went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Nick Severson also homered and drove in two runs.
Easton Miller went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Cole Grider doubled and knocked in a run, while Gabe Murphy went 2-for-4 and had one RBI.
In the first game, the Dodgers capitalized on 11 walks. All four of Centennial’s pitchers struggled, including Ian McGhiey (0-2), who took the loss.
“That was a tough one,” Hey said. “We just couldn’t throw a strike, and we also made six errors. You don’t win ballgames when you do those sort of things.”
Emerson Alberhasky and Lincoln Lacey each had two hits and two RBIs in the loss. Grider also drove in two runs, while Kyle Miller went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
The Jaguars are now 3-1 in the CIML Iowa Conference and 3-4 overall. Fort Dodge’s records are 2-2 and 5-4.
Centennial will play a non-conference doubleheader at Des Moines Roosevelt (7-5) on Wednesday.
