Trey Morris’ college baseball career has taken him from Iowa Falls to Fort Dodge and now to Maryville, Mo.
The former Ankeny Centennial standout has committed to play for Northwest Missouri State next season.
“It was a pretty tough decision,” said Morris, an infielder. “I looked at a couple different schools. I really like the facilities there, and the coaches were great!”
Morris started his college career at Ellsworth, where he was named to the Division II Iowa Community College Athletic Conference All-Region second team as a freshman. He batted .330 with five home runs, 14 doubles and 26 RBIs while also serving as one of the Panthers’ top pitchers, posting a 3-4 record with a 6.15 ERA.
Morris then transferred to Iowa Central for his sophomore season. He batted .363 with eight homers, 11 doubles and 60 RBIs while helping the Tritons to a 38-20 mark.
“I pitched at Ellsworth my first year, but when I got to Iowa Central I just hit,” said Morris. “I’m not sure if I will pitch there (at Northwest Missouri State), but if they need me to I will!”
Morris announced his commitment via Twitter on Sunday.
“I’m excited to announce I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at @NWBearcatBSB! I’d like to thank my family, friends, teammates and coaches that have helped me over my last two years!” he tweeted.
