It’s been a tough week for the Ankeny Centennial softball team.
Thursday’s non-conference doubleheader at Urbandale provided the Jaguars with a chance to get back on the winning track.
They took advantage of it.
Sixth-ranked Centennial pounded out 29 hits, seven of them for extra bases, and swept the J-Hawks by scores of 10-2 and 9-3. The Jaguars, who improved to 16-11 on the season, were coming off doubleheader losses to No. 3 Fort Dodge on Monday and No. 1 Waukee Northwest on Wednesday.
Centennial used a five-run seventh inning to seal the win in the opener. Jadeyn Stahr (8-4) earned the victory, tossing a six-hitter with three strikeouts.
Jordyn Kennedy went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. She has hit four of the team’s nine homers this season.
Lauren Gustofson went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs. She also had a home run, her first of the year.
Sydney Morris doubled and knocked in two runs. Payton Drefke and Addi Starr each had two hits and one RBI.
Mackenzie James enjoyed a huge night at the plate, going 6-for-8 in the twinbill and raising her average to .350. She went 3-for-5 and scored three times in the first game, then went 3-for-3 with a double and one RBI in the nightcap.
Centennial scored two runs in the fourth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit in the second game. The Jaguars then added two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
Morris went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and four RBIs. It was her first roundtripper.
Starr went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Claire Suarez went 2-for-3 and drove in a run.
Cora Boyle (2-1) scattered nine hits to earn the win. Urbandale’s record dropped to 12-17.
Centennial will host four games in the Brent Prange Classic this weekend, including a rematch against the J-Hawks on Friday at 2 p.m.
