The cold and windy weather provided another challenge for the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team on Monday.
The 12th-ranked Jaguars placed sixth among 12 teams in the Dragon Invitational at Jester Park. They shot a 384.
“I’m proud of the way the girls battled the conditions,” said Centennial coach John Petersen.
No. 3 Southeast Polk won the team title with a 332. The Rams finished 17 strokes ahead of No. 4 Waukee Northwest and No. 8 Valley, the three-time defending champion.
Valley’s Hallie Yates carded a 1-over-par 73 to earn medalist honors. Northwest’s Hannah Pettitt was the runner-up with a 77.
Southeast Polk relied on its depth, taking the next four individual places. The Rams posted scores of 82, 83, 83 and 84.
Centennial’s Payton Drefke fired an 88 to place 12th. Vivian Wilson and Olivia Joensen each shot a 98, Adelyne Peterson carded a 100, Kate Geiselhart had a 103, and Brooke Ridout finished with a 110.
“We need to regain our confidence on the greens, which will get us much more competitive as we go into regionals in a couple of weeks,” Petersen said.
The Jaguars will host a CIML Conference triangular meet against No. 15 Waukee and No. 16 Johnston on Wednesday at Briarwood Golf Club. The Dragons placed fifth on their home course Monday with a 381, while the Warriors finished seventh with a 390.
