The Ankeny Centennial boys’ track team continues to build a lot of momentum heading into next week’s Drake Relays.
The Jaguars won the Class A title at the Waukee Relays on Thursday with 150 points. The host Warriors finished second in the nine-team field with 134.5.
Ankeny placed sixth with 45 points.
Centennial won seven events, including three relays. Braeden Jackson anchored both the winning 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
Jackson teamed up with Noah Ross, Robert McGhee and Joel Neith to win the 4×100 in 42.25 seconds. The Ankeny foursome of Finn McClure, Alex Zuber, Treyton Grossman and Tyler Sickerson was second in that event in 42.60, which allowed the Hawks to meet the Blue Oval standard for the Drake Relays.
Jackson and McGhee were joined by Cael Woods and Caleb Reed in the 4×200. The Jaguars were clocked in 1:27.51.
“We are confident enough to know we are one of the top teams in the state, but we also know there is room for improvement and we have to keep working hard every day,” Jackson said.
Centennial also won the sprint medley relay in a time of 1:37.38. That team consisted of Neith, Reed, Ross and Kyler Jones.
Jones also won the 200 in 23.39, while Jackson Reed took the 400 in 50.68. Ankeny’s Quin Somers placed third in the 400 in 52.34.

The Jaguars posted a 1-2 finish in the shot put. Max Dickinson won the event with a throw of 53 feet 10.5 inches, while Gavin Humphrey set a new personal record while placing second with a toss of 53-0.
Sam Heither was the runner-up in the 100 in 11.72. Davis Johnson placed second in the 3,200 with a time of 10:07.10.
