Ankeny Centennial senior Isaac Bruhl is a two-time state placewinner in wrestling and an all-state infielder on the baseball team.
He discovered last fall, though, that football was his favorite sport.
“I knew I wanted to play either baseball or football in college and after this year’s football season, I had a lot of fun and didn’t want to give up football so that was ultimately why I chose football over baseball,” said Bruhl.
Earlier this week, Bruhl announced his commitment to play for Iowa Western Community College. The Reivers won the NJCAA Division I national championship in both 2022 and 2023 before falling in last year’s championship game.
“Iowa Western is a really nice place to be,” Bruhl said. “The facilities are amazing, and the coaches were really welcoming and easy to be around. I liked basically everything there, and I’m excited to get to work for them.”
Bruhl, whose brother Lucas plays baseball at North Iowa Area Community College, helped the Jaguars to an 8-3 record and a trip to the Class 5A quarterfinals last season. He was named to the District 1 first team.
As a defensive back, Bruhl made 35.5 stops and tied for the team lead with three interceptions. On offense, he ran 14 times for 89 yards and a touchdown while catching 12 passes for 181 yards and two more scores.
“They plan on having me play slot receiver,” Bruhl said.
