
Although no team scores were kept, the Ankeny Centennial girls’ track squad turned in a bunch of strong performances on Thursday at Mason City, where the Jaguars won 10 events at the Riverhawk Invitational.
It was a good night for Centennial’s distance runners, who placed two girls among the top three finishers in the three longest individual races.
Anika Mohrhauser won the 3,000 in a time of 10:34.49. Teammate Trinity Klingensmith was the runner-up in 11:12.58.
Bella Hodges captured the 800 in 2:19.63. Klingensmith was third in 2:32.66.
Mohrhauser placed second in the 1,500 in 4:55.04. Ellie Blevins finished third in 4:56.08.
Cora DenHartog won the 400. She was clocked in 1:00.62.
The Jaguars swept all three hurdles events. Ava Barten won the 100 hurdles in 15.65 seconds, while Kylin Smith took the 400 hurdles in 1:07.01.
Those two also teamed up with Anna Woods and Taylor Gilbreaith to win the shuttle hurdle relay. Centennial was clocked in 1:05.18.
Woods won the high jump, clearing the bar at 4 feet 10 inches. She also teamed up with Smith, Bella Buesch and Aly Balashaitis to win the 4×200 relay in 1:46.80.
Balashaitis also anchored the winning 4×400 relay. She combined with Teagan Jackson, Barten and DenHartog to win the race in 4:06.39.
The Jaguars’ other victory came in the 4×800 relay. The team of Kyra Zinn, Tallie Plueger, Blevins and Hodges was clocked in 9:42.74.
Bailey Snyder placed second in the 200 in 27.05 seconds. Aly Drefke was third in 27.10.
Ellsie Cole added a third-place finish in the 400 hurdles. She turned in a time of 1:14.44.
Centennial will compete in the CIML Conference meet on Thursday at Waukee.
