Junior Garrett Christensen scored a goal and also had an assist to lead the Ankeny Centennial boys’ soccer team to a 4-2 victory at Waukee on Friday.
The Jaguars built a 2-0 halftime lead, then extended the margin to 4-0 in the second half before Waukee scored a pair of late goals.
“It was a good performance. Bad coaching by me,” said Centennial coach Brian Duax. “The boys played well. We were dominating at half, made some adjustments, and then dominated even more in the second half. We made too many changes to the lineup, and it changed the rhythm of the game.”

Waukee scored on a corner kick and a counter attack with about 10 minutes left to play. Prior to those two goals, the Warriors had been outscored by a 30-2 margin in CIML Conference play.
Still, the Jaguars earned their second straight win and their third in the last four games. They improved to 3-3 in the league and 9-5 overall, while Waukee’s records dropped to 0-6 and 2-11-2.

Centennial played without standout junior forward Tate Duax, who received a red card during the Jaguars’ 4-2 win at third-ranked Ames on Monday.
“Overall, it was a good performance,” Duax said. “We had four different goal scorers and four different assists from the boys.”

Kaikungi Byauunda, Alen Mujakovic and Andrew Kruger scored Centennial’s other goals. Ethan Sextro, Mace Nithang and Arnel Islamovic each added an assist.
The Jaguars will host a conference game against No. 4 Johnston, the two-time defending Class 4A champion, on Tuesday. The game will be played at Ankeny Stadium.
The Dragons (8-3-3) are coming off a 2-0 loss to No. 1 Valley on Friday.
