All four of Ankeny’s tennis teams will be in action this weekend in postseason play.
Both the Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial girls’ squads have been placed in Class 2A Region 3. The Hawkettes and Jaguars could potentially meet in the regional final, but would have to pull off an upset or two first in order for that to happen.
Ankeny (3-8) will host Southeast Polk (1-9) in a regional quarterfinal on Friday at 9 a.m. The Hawkettes won an earlier meeting at Southeast Polk, 11-0, on April 29.
At the same time, Centennial (2-10) will host a regional quarterfinal against Des Moines Roosevelt (6-7). The two teams have not met this season.
Pleasant Valley will host the next two rounds on Tuesday, May 20. The Spartans (14-6) will play either Centennial or Roosevelt in the semifinals at 9 a.m., while Waterloo West (12-4) will face either Ankeny or Southeast Polk.
The regional final will be played at 1 p.m.
On the boys’ side, Ankeny has been placed in Class 2A Substate 4. The Hawks (2-7) will host Des Moines Roosevelt (7-4) in a substate quarterfinal on Friday at 4 p.m.
The winner of that match will play at Linn-Mar (Marion) (10-6) in a substate semifinal on Saturday at 11 a.m. The substate final will be played on Wednesday, May 21 at a site to be determined.
Centennial has been placed in Substate 2. The Jaguars (0-10) will face Des Moines North (2-9) in a substate quarterfinal on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Johnston, with the winner to then face Johnston (11-1) in a substate semifinal at noon.
