One big inning was all that the Cedar Falls softball team needed to sweep a non-conference doubleheader on Friday at second-ranked Ankeny Centennial, snapping the Jaguars’ seven-game winning streak.
The No. 13 Tigers posted a 5-4 victory in both games. They used a five-run sixth inning to erase a 4-0 deficit in the opener, then rallied for five runs in the fifth to overcome a 3-0 hole in the nightcap.
Cedar Falls raised its record to 13-3 on the season. The Jaguars dropped to 13-5.
Centennial starter Aubrey Scieszinski cruised through the first five innings in the first game before running into trouble in the sixth. She allowed five earned runs on five hits and had five strikeouts before coach Brett Delaney called on reliever Kori Lincicum to get the final six outs.
Lauren Bartine went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the loss. Mady Ott went 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.
Lincicum had a double for the Jaguars. Makenna Foster knocked in a run.
Ott then went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the second game. She raised her batting average to .360.
Jordyn Kennedy hit a two-run homer, her 10th of the season. She walked three times and scored twice.
Lincicum and Mary Brantley each went 2-for-3. Brantley scored two runs, while Lincicum had one RBI.
Peyten Spiegel (3-1) took the loss. She allowed four earned runs on six hits and had five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
