Lauren Bartine picked a good time to hit her first career varsity home run.
The junior designated hitter hit a two-run blast in the sixth inning to give the fourth-ranked Ankeny Centennial softball team a 10-2 victory over No. 3 Johnston on Thursday at Centennial.
“We played a complete team game!” said Centennial coach Brett Delaney, whose squad swept the season series against the Dragons. “It has been an interesting week as this is the first game we have finished even though we have started two other ones that we couldn’t finish due to rain.”

Bartine went 3-for-4 with four RBIs as the Jaguars improved to 10-3 in the CIML Conference and 15-6 overall. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Johnston, whose records fell to 7-7 and 15-7.
Centennial’s Mady Ott went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Makenna Foster went 2-for-3 and drove in a run.
Ava Faber went 2-for-2 and was hit by a pitch. She scored two runs and knocked in another.
Jordyn Kennedy also had an RBI for the Jaguars, who used a four-run third inning to erase a 2-1 deficit. They then added two runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth before Bartine’s walk-off blast in the sixth.

Aubrey Scieszinski (8-2) earned the win, allowing one earned run on six hits. She walked none and had four strikeouts.
“Aubrey pitched well, and you could tell she had confidence in the defense behind her,” Delaney said.
Centennial will play in the Fort Dodge Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
