Darin Severs tossed another gem as the Ankeny Centennial baseball team posted a 9-2 victory over visiting Waukee to salvage a split of Tuesday’s make-up CIML Conference doubleheader.
The 10th-ranked Warriors won the opener, 6-4, in 10 innings. That game was resumed on Tuesday after being suspended due to rain on June 18.
No. 9 Centennial finished the regular season with records of 13-11 in the conference and 23-13 overall. Waukee’s marks are nearly identical (13-10, 23-13).
Severs raised his record to 7-0 with 6 2/3 strong innings. He allowed two earned runs on three hits and had seven strikeouts.

Severs had pitched the first three innings of the opener, which saw the Warriors jump out to a 4-0 lead last month. Reed Anderson (0-1) pitched the final 6 2/3 innings of that game on Tuesday, allowing no earned runs on just two hits while racking up six strikeouts.
“We had outstanding pitching from both Reed and Darin,” said Centennial coach Mark Hey. “We also had a good approach at the plate and hit the ball well.”
Will Morris went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs in the nightcap. Anderson went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.

Will Nesler went 3-for-3, scored two runs and knocked in another. Cade Newman went 1-for-2 and scored three times.
In the first game, Centennial scored two runs in the fourth inning and two more in the seventh to force extra innings. The Warriors regained the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the 10th.
Nolan Powell went 2-for-4 and had two RBIs in the loss. Grant Crowner went 2-for-5 and drove in a run, while Anderson also went 2-for-5.

Josh Quinlin added an RBI for the Jaguars.
“Several players who haven’t gotten a lot of varsity experience did a really nice job tonight,” Hey said. “And it’s good to be playing well heading into the postseason.”
Centennial will host a Class 4A substate quarterfinal against Marshalltown (6-26) on Friday.
