The Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team began a busy week in impressive fashion.
The Jaguars rolled to an 11-0 victory over visiting Fort Dodge in a non-conference meet on Monday at the Prairie Ridge courts. They raised their record to 2-1, while the Dodgers dropped to 0-3.
“The team as a whole had a great performance tonight, sweeping the meet and securing wins across the entire lineup,” said Centennial coach Alli Gustafson.
Centennial won nine of the 11 matches in straight sets, including all five doubles matches. Fort Dodge won the opening set at both No. 1 and 4 singles, but Talia Baca and Imrie Hanson rallied to win for the Jaguars.
“A highlight of the night came in singles from Imrie, who showed incredible fight after dropping the first set,” Gustafson said. “She battled back to take the second set and then clinched the super tiebreaker, focusing on her footwork and smart shot placement to close out the match.”
The Jaguars will host Waukee Northwest in their CIML Conference opener on Tuesday before facing crosstown rival Ankeny in another conference meet on Thursday.
“With tonight’s momentum, we are ready to take on Northwest,” Gustafson said.
