Despite a pair of wins from Samara Peterson, the Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team dropped an 8-3 decision to visiting Urbandale in a CIML Conference meet on Tuesday.
The J-Hawks won four of the six singles matches and four of the five doubles matches. They improved to 2-2 in the conference and 5-2 overall, while Centennial’s records dropped to 1-2 and 3-3.
“Today wasn’t our best outing on the court, but we faced a tough Urbandale team that thrives on consistency and strong net play,” said Centennial coach Alli Gustafson. “Despite battling through rallies and working hard in every match, we weren’t able to clinch many wins.”
Peterson posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Danni Pederson at No. 1 singles. She then teamed up with Talia Baca for a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Pederson and Sydney Thielman at No. 1 doubles.
The Jaguars also got a win at No. 6 singles from Natalie Carr, who rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Timber Negley.
Centennial will play another conference meet at Dowling Catholic (3-1) on Thursday.
“We’re excited to get back to practice, continue improving, and keep building toward stronger performances ahead,” Gustafson said.
