
The Ankeny girls’ tennis team got a pair of wins from Olivia North and Izzie Doyle, but it wasn’t enough as the Hawkettes dropped a 9-2 decision at Ottumwa in a non-conference meet on Tuesday.
North outlasted Jordan Lee, 7-6 (4), 5-7, 1-0 (4), in the No. 1 singles match. Doyle posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sonya Lundgren at the No. 3 position.
Ankeny almost came away with a split in singles. At the No. 2 spot, KJ Quirk won the first set before falling to Madalynn Sertterh, 6-7 (2), 6-2, 1-0 (5).
The Bulldogs then swept the five doubles matches in straight sets to improve to 8-1 on the season. The Hawkettes’ record fell to 2-10.
Ankeny will return to CIML Conference action on Thursday with a meet at Urbandale (8-4).
