Mya Crawford’s college basketball debut will have to wait until 2026.
The former Ankeny Centennial star will miss her freshman season at Drake after suffering an injury during practice a week ago.
“I tore my ACL and meniscus,” said Crawford, who attended Tuesday’s volleyball match at Centennial. “Surgery is this morning. Rehab will start sometime next week!”
Crawford averaged 13.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game as a senior, when she helped the Jaguars to a 17-8 record and a fifth consecutive trip to the state tournament. She led her team with 95 assists, 76 steals and 28 blocks.
Crawford was a two-time first-team all-state selection in Class 5A by the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association and the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association. She finished her high school career with more than 1,000 points and 600 rebounds.
A full recovery from combined ACL and meniscus surgery can take nine to 12 months.
