The Ankeny boys’ golf team shot a 318 in a CIML Conference triangular meet on Wednesday at River Valley Golf Course in Adel.
Second-ranked Dowling Catholic posted a 299 total to finish with an unbeaten 8-0 record in conference duals. No. 11 Waukee shot a 311.
The Warriors are now 2-4 in the league. The Hawks finished their CIML schedule at 2-6.
“I thought it was a good day for us as a team,” said Ankeny coach Mike Weddingfeld. “We shot OK, but again we were on a course that only a couple guys had played and it rained off and on enough to get everything and everyone wet, so I am happy with how we played.”
Dowling’s AJ Sposato carded a 71 to earn medalist honors. Teammate Dewell Anderson was the runner-up with a 73.
Ankeny’s Gavin Ross placed third with a 74.
“Gavin played a great round today and really battled the elements playing smart golf,” Weddingfeld said. “I know he said he left three to four putts just short that were dead center cup, but those tap-ins make easy pars. I think his game has matured a lot these last couple weeks and if we can get the other guys down around 75 or better, I think we will be competitive these next couple weeks.”
Elliott McHose carded an 80 for the Hawks. Ryan Constable and Chase Ortega each shot an 82, Griffen Beelner had an 83, and Riley Dueker finished with a 90.
Ankeny will compete in the Indianola Invitational on Monday at the Indianola Country Club. The Hawks placed second at last year’s meet behind Southeast Polk.
