
The Ankeny girls’ tennis squad cruised to a 5-0 victory over visiting Des Moines East in the quarterfinals of a Class 2A regional team tournament on Saturday morning.
The Hawkettes swept five of the six singles matches in straight sets and held a commanding lead at the No. 5 spot when the meet was halted.
“It was an awesome day for the girls!” said Ankeny coach Katie Owens. “We played them tough!”
Ankeny raised its record to 3-11. The Scarlets finished the season at 1-6.
The Hawkettes will play at Valley (13-0) in the semifinal round on Wednesday at 1 p.m. It will be a rematch of the season opener on Aug. 12 at Valley, which was won by the Tigers, 11-0.
