The Ankeny and Johnston girls’ swimming teams took turns earning first-place finishes during a CIML Conference dual meet on Tuesday at Summit Middle School.
Each squad won six of the 12 events, but in the end the seventh-ranked Dragons relied on their depth to post a 102-84 victory. They improved to 3-1 in the conference and 15-2 overall, while No. 5 Ankeny’s records dropped to 0-4 and 4-5.
The Hawkettes won six of the first eight events, but Johnston swept the top three places in both the 200 individual medley and the diving competition to stay within striking distance. The Dragons then won the last four events to seal the victory, including a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 breaststroke.
