The Ankeny volleyball team defeated one ranked opponent and outlasted two other foes in three sets to finish a perfect 3-0 in the Ankeny Quadrangular on Saturday.

The sixth-ranked Hawkettes posted a 25-14, 25-19 win over Norwalk, the No. 5 team in Class 4A. They defeated Omaha (Neb.) Westside by scores of 25-18, 23-25, 15-13 and rallied for a 21-25, 25-10, 15-13 victory over Cedar Rapids Xavier.

“It was our last Saturday date of the regular season,” said Ankeny coach Liz Baethke, whose team improved to 24-8 overall. “I thought the competition and length of the day was awesome, and it was exactly what we needed to send us into the postseason.”

Ankeny outhit Norwalk (22-10) by a .350 to .162 margin. The Hawkettes hit .320 against Omaha Westside and .277 against Cedar Rapids Xavier (10-14).

Marlee Ellison and Hailey Wiederin each had 29 kills on the day. Wiederin also had three blocks in the win over Norwalk and two more against Xavier.

Miya Steinkamp racked up 56 assists in the three matches. Macie Kohl added 12 assists against Westside and 14 in the win over Xavier.

Madi Anselme had seven digs and completed all 15 of her serves with three aces against Norwalk. Hailey Flanders went 13-of-13 from behind the serving line and had four aces.

Flanders racked up 22 digs against Westside. Quinn Roush contributed nine kills and two blocks.

Elle Isaacson had six kills against Xavier. Flanders chipped in 10 digs and three aces, while Kohl completed all 14 of her serves and also had three aces.

The Hawkettes will host a CIML Conference match against Urbandale on Tuesday. It will be their regular-season finale.

The J-Hawks are 0-6 in the league and 2-25 overall. A win would allow Ankeny to earn at least a share of fourth place in the conference.
