
Carson Johnson’s transition to the NCAA Division I level is off to a good start.
The former Ankeny basketball star has scored a total of 27 points in his first two games at Denver University after transferring from Minnesota State-Moorhead. The Pioneers have lost their first two games on a season-opening road trip under first-year coach Tim Bergstraser, who came to Denver from Moorhead and brought four of his players with him.
Johnson, a sophomore point guard, scored 18 points in an 84-73 loss at Seattle on Monday. He then had nine points and four assists on Thursday in an 84-70 loss at Washington.
Johnson is averaging 13.5 points, 3.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 34.5 minutes of action per game.
The Pioneers will close out their road trip on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game at Montana State that will be televised on ESPN+.
