Ankeny Centennial cross country coaches Eric Cogdill and Chad Fickbohm have been named Class 4A at-large coaches of the year by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches. The IATC announced the awards following its fall meeting on Sunday.
This is the seventh time that Cogdill has been honored. He guided the Centennial girls’ team to a fifth-place finish in the Class 4A state meet on Nov. 1 at Fort Dodge, where the Jaguars set a school record with a team score of 136 points.
Fickbohm was also honored after the Centennial boys’ squad earned a team trophy for the first time in program history. The Jaguars placed third in Class 4A with 157 points, by far the team’s highest finish ever.
Several Ankeny and Centennial athletes were also recognized by the IATC. Centennial’s Jack Behrens, Cohen Moll, Ian Smith and Kylee Patterson were named to the academic all-state team along with Isaiah Smith of Ankeny.

Qualifications for the award include being a senior and having a 3.8 GPA or higher. Runners also had to compete at the state meet or place in the top 30 at a state qualifying meet.
Moll was also one of four runners from the two schools to receive elite all-state honors. The others were Ellie Blevins and Rebecca Flick of Centennial and Makenna Madetzke of Ankeny.
Those honorees, who earned first-team all-state honors in Class 4A for placing in the top 15 at the state meet, received elite all-state honors for placing among the top 30 fastest runners among all four classes at state.
Blevins placed 10th among all the girls in Iowa, followed by Madetzke in 18th and Flick in 19th. Moll took 20th among all the boys in the state.
