
Three Ankeny Centennial volleyball stars have earned all-state honors from the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association along with a trio of Ankeny standouts.
Centennial’s Mya Lei-Butters and Tatem Schmidt were joined on the Class 5A second team by fellow senior Hailey Flanders of Ankeny. Lei-Butters was a third-team pick as a junior.
Two other Ankeny players, junior Marlee Ellison and sophomore Hailey Wiederin, were selected to the third team. Centennial senior Maegan Cheeseman was also a third-team pick.

Flanders, a libero, helped the Hawkettes to a 28-9 mark and an appearance in the Class 5A semifinals. She led Class 5A with 60 aces and ranked fourth in Class 5A with 450 digs.
Lei-Butters, a libero, helped the Jaguars to a 34-6 record and a runner-up finish in Class 5A. She ranked fifth in Class 5A with 431 digs.
Schmidt, a setter and outside hitter, led Centennial with 266 kills and also had a team-best .952 serving percentage (320-of-336). She earlier joined Lei-Butters on the Class 5A all-tournament team.

Cheeseman, a setter, tied for 11th in Class 5A with 592 assists. She also contributed 287 digs and 41 aces.
Ellison, an outside hitter, ranked second on her team with 249 kills. She also had 226 digs and 31 aces.
Wiederin, an outside hitter, ranked eighth in Class 5A with 319 kills. She also ranked eighth in blocks with 80.

All-district honors
Lei-Butters, Schmidt and Cheeseman were also named to the Class 5A West all-district team along with Flanders, Ellison and Wiederin. The all-district squads were selected by the IGCA.
Lei-Butters was a repeat pick.
