
Wayne State College outside hitter Delaney Miller has been named the Central Region Freshman of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The former Ankeny Centennial star also earned first-team all-region honors after helping the Wildcats to a 27-5 record and a No. 4 ranking in the final regular season AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.
The 5-foot-10 Miller was earlier selected the NSIC Freshman of the Year and also landed a spot on the all-NSIC first team thanks to a sensational debut season with the Wildcats. She led WSC and ranked third in the NSIC in kills per set at 3.83 and was eighth in points per set (3.95).
Miller had 20 or more kills in six of her last 13 matches, including the previous three heading into this week’s NCAA Central Region Tournament. She had a career-best 25 kills hitting .436 in a 3-1 win over Northern State on Nov. 18 and had 24 kills vs. St. Cloud State in the NSIC Tournament semifinals on Nov. 21.
Miller was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 17. She recorded 10 or more kills in 21 matches this season.
Miller had 11 kills on Thursday as the third-seeded Wildcats closed out their season with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-22 loss to No. 6 Washburn in the opening round of the Central Region Tournament at Kearney, Neb.
