The Ankeny boys’ bowling team nearly matched its highest score from last year in just its second meet of the season.
Ankeny posted a score of 2,571 during Monday’s non-conference dual meet against Gilbert at Perfect Games. Gilbert won the meet by 31 pins with a total of 2,602.
“The boys had a nice meet,” said Ankeny coach Adam Booth. “They were hitting marks and competing.”
Clayton Jamison led the team with a 376 series. Preston Carr bowled a 367, Sebastian Cook had a 341, Gavin Johnston rolled a 334, George Inman had a 304, and Noah Larson added a 278.
The Ankeny boys’ squad dropped to 0-2 on the season. Its highest score last year of 2,595 came during a dual meet against Johnston at Game Day Lanes.
It was the first win for the Tigers (1-3), who entered the meet with an average score of 2,499.
“Gilbert came out and rolled a tremendous first baker game,” Booth said. “They kind of pulled away, but we fought back. We were proud of their energy and how they competed.”
The Ankeny girls’ team also lost on Monday by a score of 1,920 to 1,772. Its record fell to 0-3 overall.
Gilbert improved to 3-1 on the season.
“The girls just need to be more consistent about hitting their marks,” Booth said. “But overall, it was a good night.”
The Ankeny teams will face Dowling Catholic in a CIML Conference meet on Thursday at Val Lanes.
