The Ankeny boys’ swimming team cruised to a 136-32 victory over Grinnell in a non-conference meet on Tuesday at the Grinnell College Natatorium.
Ankeny won all 11 events while raising its overall record to 4-5. The Tigers dropped to 6-4.
“It was awesome to be at one of the best pools in the state of Iowa!” said Ankeny coach Dustin Rhoads. “We were able to compete and swim in some different events to kind of see what the guys could do. We are still trying to finalize our strongest lineup as we move toward our conference dual meet season, and (figure out) what everyone on the team is best at.”
Landon Wisehart and Noah Kearney each won two individual events for Ankeny. Teammates Ike Evans, Jack Walsh, Jake Smith and Bryer Pearson also earned victories.
Wisehart took the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.49, edging Grinnell’s Wyatt Sumner by .03 seconds in the closest race of the night. He later won the 500 freestyle in 5:14.25.
Kearney captured the 200 individual medley in 2:06.12. He also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.16.
Evans took the 50 freestyle in 24.15, edging teammate Wilson Pous-Ojeda by .10 seconds. Pous-Ojeda was also the runner-up in the 500 freestyle in 5:15.52.
Walsh won the 100 butterfly in 57.14. Patrick Morrissey took second in that event in 1:00.44.
Smith captured the 100 freestyle in 49.94, while Miles Harbert was the runner-up in 52.16. Smith later took second in the breaststroke in 1:06.83.
Pearson won the 100 backstroke in 57.75. He earlier took second in the 200 IM in 2:08.51.

“It is probably not very fun for the guys to swim the same exact events every meet so we mix it up when we can, and I thought the guys did a great job,” Rhoads said.
Ankeny opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:46.08. That team consisted of Pearson, Smith, Walsh and Kearney.
Smith teamed up with Evans, Kearney and Wisehart to win the 200 freestyle relay. That squad was clocked in 1:34.82.
Wisehart also anchored the winning 400 freestyle relay. He combined with Harbert, Pearson and Pous-Ojeda to post a time of 3:31.20.
Ankeny will compete in the Dick Marcussen Invitational on Saturday at Cedar Falls.
“Our conference is so tough, so it is nice to have a non-conference dual and get a win!” Rhoads said. “Hopefully, this builds confidence for us going into the Cedar Falls Invite with 10 other teams, and then we have three big meets next week. We still have a lot of work to do, but the little details were better tonight! It’s a long but short season.
“We will keep getting better!” he added.
