Former Ankeny quarterback JJ Kohl has found a new home.
Kohl has committed to play for Florida International University. He also visited FIU a year ago before transferring to Appalachian State, where he spent one season.
“It’s a great fit and opportunity for me,” Kohl said.
The 6-foot-7, 240-pound quarterback passed for 1,465 yards and 12 touchdowns while helping Appalachian State to a 5-7 record this season. He played in eight games and started six of the last eight.
Kohl led the Mountaineers to a 27-23 victory over Oregon State in his first collegiate start on Oct. 4. He also started in wins over Georgia State and Marshall.
FIU went 7-6 this season, capped off by a 57-20 loss to UTSA in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl on Dec. 26 at Dallas. The Panthers, who play their home games at Pitbull Stadium in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, compete in the East Division of Conference USA.
Kohl will have two years of eligibility remaining.
