Chalk up another honor for legendary football coach Jerry Pezzetti.
Pezzetti, the co-head coach at Ankeny Centennial along with his son Ryan, will be inducted into the newly established Melcher-Dallas Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday night. He will be honored along with the other members of the inaugural class of inductees about 7:15 p.m. between the girls’ and boys’ basketball games.
Pezzetti is a Melcher native who graduated from there 70 years ago (1956). He later became the head coach for seven years at Melcher-Dallas, where he won four conference titles and had three undefeated teams.
Pezzetti, who came to Ankeny in 1969 and coached the Hawks for 44 years before moving across town when Centennial opened in 2013, is Iowa’s all-time winningest coach. He was previously selected to the Iowa Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame (1998) and the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame (2022).
A reception for the inductees will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
