
It was all about pride for the Ankeny wrestling team.
After the pairings for the regional duals were announced earlier in the day, the 12th-ranked Hawks hosted No. 22 Waukee on Tuesday in a CIML Conference dual meet with little at stake.
Ankeny recorded four pins and a technical fall to cruise to a 54-20 victory over the Warriors. The Hawks improved to 3-4 in the conference and 12-6 overall heading into Thursday’s regular-season finale against visiting Urbandale, the No. 20 team in Class 3A.
Ankeny got pins from Eddie Salgado at 106 pounds, Ben Walsh at 120, Aiden Winkie at 138 and Noah Kauffman at 144. Ryleigh Egeberg won by a technical fall at 190, while Caleb Alhussaini posted a major decision at 132.
Calvin Rathjen at 165, Kash Johnson at 175 and Ryne Dobson at 215 each won by forfeit. The closest match of the night came at 150, where Jacob Haase posted a 10-6 decision over Brady Bechler.
