Ankeny Centennial midfielder Emmarie Becker has verbally committed to play for the women’s soccer team at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.
Becker said head coach Molly Fiedler and assistant coach John Moening played a pivotal role in her decision.
“I looked at a lot of schools from all over the country throughout my recruitment process, but honestly, when I talked to coach Molly and coach John at St. Olaf and visited the campus, I knew I wanted to spend my next four years there,” Becker said.
Becker has started for Centennial since her freshman season, racking up 10 goals and 10 assists in her career. As a junior, she scored five goals and had four assists while helping the Jaguars to a 15-4-2 record and a trip to the Class 3A semifinals.
Becker, who also saw some action at goalkeeper last season, is anxious to take her game to the next level.
“From a soccer standpoint, I was drawn to the competitive atmosphere, and it was evident that the players loved being around each other,” she said. “I enjoyed every conversation I had with the coaches and liked how their coaching styles and values aligned with who I am as a player. Academically, St. Olaf is not only a great school, but it also offers an excellent kinesiology program and truly strives to prepare students for life after college.
“I can’t wait to be up there this fall!” she added.
