The season came to an end on Monday for the Ankeny girls’ bowling team.
Ankeny placed seventh among eight teams in a Class 3A regional meet at Champion Bowl in Ottumwa. Senior Olivia Harris took ninth as an individual for the second straight year, just one spot away from qualifying for state.
Ottumwa won the regional crown on its home lanes, finishing with a team score of 2,739. The Bulldogs advanced to next week’s state tournament along with runner-up Bettendorf, which posted a total of 2,660.
Ottumwa extended its streak of state tournament appearances, whether sanctioned or not, to a record 26th consecutive season. The Bulldogs will try to win their 13th state title on Feb. 11 at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo.
Bettendorf’s Skye Jungwirth was the individual champion with a three-game series of 635. She edged runner-up Zina Stoltzfus of Muscatine by six pins.
Stoltzfus advanced to the state tournament along with two other individuals whose teams did not qualify, Julia Rule of Southeast Polk and Jaylynn Gould of Davenport Central.
