
The Ankeny boys’ bowling team placed seventh in the CIML Conference meet on Thursday at Great Escape.
Ankeny posted a score of 2,604. The team competition consisted of 15 bakers games.
Waukee racked up a total of 3,380 to defend its title, including a 268 in its final game. Urbandale bowled a 279 in its second game and went on to earn runner-up honors, finishing with a score of 3,180.
Ankeny’s Gavin Johnston placed 15th in the individual competition. The senior bowled a three-game series of 605.
After bowling a 134 in his opening game, Johnston got hot and bowled a 265 in his second game. He then followed with a 206 in his final game.
“Gavin had a great second game,” said Ankeny coach Adam Booth. “He ended up in 15th place, which is second-team all-conference.”

Preston Carr rolled a 555 series, including a 217 in his second game. George Inman had a 524, Roscoe Wagner bowled a 465, Sebastian Cook had a 461, and Clayton Jamison added a 423.
Waukee’s Luke Barnard bowled a 760 series to capture the individual crown. He bowled games of 234, 268 and 258.
Barnard’s teammate, Grady Wilcox, took second with a 707. He had a 269 in his final game.
Ankeny will compete in a Class 3A district meet on Monday at Wayward Social in Marshalltown. Ames, Cedar Falls, Des Moines East, Des Moines North, Marshalltown, Valley and Waterloo West will also be in the field.
“It’s a pretty tough district for us with Waterloo West and Marshalltown in the same spot,” Booth said.
