
Ankeny boys’ basketball star Rio Aguirre has been unanimously selected to the CIML Conference first team for the second consecutive year.
Aguirre, a senior guard, led the Hawks to a 12-11 record. He averaged a team-high 19.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Aguirre led Ankeny with 58 3-point goals, shooting 43.0 percent from behind the arc. He also recorded a team-high 100 assists and 30 steals.

Aguirre’s teammate, Jasani Campbell, was a repeat selection to the all-conference second team. The junior guard averaged 14.8 points and 3.0 rebounds.
Two other Ankeny players, Max Allison and Drew Sorensen, were third-team picks. They were joined on the squad by the Ankeny Centennial duo of Keaton Kasperbauer and Luke Mitchell.
Sorensen, a senior guard, averaged 7.5 points and 3.0 rebounds. He placed second among the Hawks with 78 assists.

Allison, a senior center, averaged 3.7 points and 4.6 rebounds. He led Ankeny with 47 blocks and was also the team’s best shooter from the field, making 66.7 percent of his attempts (38-of-57).
Mitchell, a junior forward, averaged 10.7 points and a team-high 5.6 rebounds. He was the Jaguars’ best shooter from the field (105-of-192) and from 3-point range (13-of-29).
Kasperbauer, a sophomore guard, helped Centennial to a 9-14 record. He averaged 10.0 points and 2.8 rebounds.

Three other Jaguars earned all-conference honorable mention. They are senior guards Kolby Bechen and Brody Prill and junior guard Hunter Runchey.
Sophomore guard Keyon Ford of Ankeny also received honorable mention.
Conference co-champion Waukee placed three players on the first team, including senior forward Evan Jacobson, who was a unanimous pick. The other unanimous picks were senior forwards Colin Rice and Landon Davis of league co-champion Waukee Northwest and senior guard Jake Pargeon of Urbandale.
Also named to the first team were sophomore forward Pete Craig and senior guard Jai White of Waukee, junior guard Nicare Cavil of Class 4A runner-up Johnston, senior center Charlie Crane and senior guard Noah Martens of Dowling Catholic, and senior guard Quentin Teeter of Urbandale.
