The weather improved dramatically on Wednesday, but that wasn’t the case for the Ankeny girls’ golf team.
After shooting a 390 for 18 holes in tough conditions at the Waukee Northwest Invitational on Monday, the Hawkettes traveled to the Urbandale Golf and Country Club on Wednesday for a nine-hole CIML Conference triangular meet against Northwest and Urbandale.
Despite partly sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s, Ankeny posted a score of 214 on a windy afternoon.

“Ultimately, it was not our best night,” said Ankeny coach Kelley Emke.
Still, Ankeny managed to come away with a split. The Hawkettes lost to Northwest, which shot a 168, but easily defeated Urbandale–which struggled to a 236 on its home course.
“We are still working on consistency, but happy to get a conference win this early in the season!” Emke said. “The girls are ready to put in the work, and I’m excited to keep progressing.”

The Wolves were led by Adalyn Wiig, who carded a 1-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors. Teammate Kendall Curran was the runner-up with a 41.
Aubree Moeller fired a 47 to lead Ankeny. She overcame a rough start to her round.
“Aubree made great improvement to come back from a tough first two holes,” Emke said.

Madalyn Ross shot a 51 for the Hawkettes. Gabby Haga carded a 57, Catherine Nelson had a 59, and Lydia Gerety finished with a 63.
Ankeny will compete in the Ankeny Centennial Invitational on Monday at Briarwood Golf Club.
