April 21, 2018 by Dan Holm

Alli Jacobson placed second in No. 3 singles at the Boone Invitational on Friday, helping the Ankeny girls’ tennis team to a fourth-place finish.

Jacobson had three close matches on the day. She posted 6-5 victories over players from Indianola and Des Moines Roosevelt, but dropped a 6-5 decision to an opponent from Boone.

Jacobson finished with 17 points, but was awarded second place on a tiebreaker. The player from Indianola also went 2-1, finishing with 21 points.

“It was a great day for tennis,” said Ankeny coach Katie Owens. “Alli had an awesome day. She battled in every match and improved with every match!”

Indianola won the tournament with 134 points. Boone was second with 127, followed by Roosevelt with 76 and Ankeny with 63.

Karly Weber went 1-2 for the Hawkettes at No. 2 singles. She placed third in her flight.

The No. 1 doubles team of Miranda Greathouse and Katelyn North also went 1-2 on the day and finished third.
