It took two days for the Des Moines Roosevelt boys’ tennis team to provide its head coach with a homecoming victory.
The Roughriders, who are coached by former Ankeny standout Dan Pitz, completed a 7-4 win over Ankeny on Friday at the Prairie Ridge courts. The non-conference meet began on Thursday, but was suspended due to rain.
The win improved Roosevelt’s record to 8-3 on the season. The Hawks dropped to 5-5.
“It was a very tight match,” said Ankeny coach Randy Daniels. “There were seven (super-tiebreakers), and we lost five of them.”
Caleb VanRees provided two of Ankeny’s victories. He won the No. 5 singles match, then teamed up with Cameron Bush for another win at No. 3 doubles.
