Although the Ankeny bowling teams opened their season on Tuesday with a loss to Valley at Val Lanes, head coach Hannah Munson was hardly disappointed by the results.
“Overall, the team is off to a great start,” said Munson, who took over the program this summer after graduating from Grand View University.
The Ankeny boys’ team lost by a score of 2,836 to 2,362. The girls’ squad fell by a score of 2,445 to 2,214.
Isabel Tetmeyer led the way for the Hawkettes. She bowled a 397 series.
“That was an amazing way for Isabel to start off the season,” Munson said. “She had a 198.5 average and was 90 percent clean during the bakers games, which means she filled her frame with either a strike or spare in 90 percent of her frames.”
Christina Angran bowled a 293 series. Alyssa Smith rolled a 285, Emma Harris had a 267, Zoe Baker bowled a 209, and Maddy Minser added a 207.
Bryce Follett paced the Hawks with a 326 series for a 163 average.
“Bryce was 70 percent clean during bakers and gave us some nice 10th-frame finishes,” Munson said.
Jerod Ringwald rolled a 297 series, while Easton Becker and Josh Meador each had a 292. James Cole bowled a 282, and Brandon Davis finished with a 240.
Aidan Doruska had a 314 series for the boys’ junior varsity team, helping the Hawks to a 69-pin victory.
“I am looking forward to our next match against Lincoln at Great Escape on Tuesday,” Munson said. “We will be looking fly in our new uniforms!”
