The Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team opened its season on Tuesday with a 182-201 loss to host Johnston in a CIML Central Conference dual meet at Jester Park.
Lauren Sease carded a 41 to lead the Jaguars. She earned medalist honors.
Claire Beath shot a 49, while Megan Lazear had a 54. Riley Stewart fired a 57, Morgan Kinch shot a 59, and Lexi Simpson added a 60.
“For the first meet, I was incredibly happy with how we hit the ball, and extremely proud of how we handled ourselves,” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “We definitely lost strokes on the greens–which would have made us much more competitive. This really gives us some things to concentrate and focus our efforts on in the next couple of weeks.”
The Jaguars will host the Centennial Invitational on Wednesday at Briarwood Golf Club, beginning at 10 a.m. They will try to win the tournament for the third straight year.
Ankeny, Des Moines Lincoln, Indianola, Nevada and Ottumwa will also compete.
