The Class 5A regional basketball pairings have been released by the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union.
Both Ankeny and 12th-ranked Ankeny Centennial might have to defeat a top-five opponent in order to qualify for the state tournament.
The Jaguars (11-9) have been placed in Region 6. They will host Indianola (13-6) or Des Moines East (5-15) in a semifinal game on Feb. 22 at 5 p.m.
Centennial has not played Indianola this season. The Jaguars rolled to a 66-23 win over East on Feb. 4.
No. 5 Cedar Falls (16-4) will host Dubuque Senior (8-12) in the other semifinal game. With a win, the Tigers would also host the regional final on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
Ankeny, meanwhile, has been placed in Region 3. The Hawkettes (9-11) will host Des Moines North (7-14) in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Ankeny posted a 52-32 victory at North on Dec. 3. The winner of the rematch will play at No. 14 Council Bluffs Lincoln (15-5) in a semifinal game on Feb. 22 at 5 p.m.
No. 3 Johnston (18-2) will host Marshalltown (3-18) in the other semifinal game. With a win, the Dragons would also host the regional final on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
