The Ankeny boys’ and girls’ cross country teams both placed seventh in the Cardinal Invitational on Tuesday at Newton. The meet was held at Maytag Park.
The Hawks and Hawkettes are both preparing to run in the Rim Rock Classic on Saturday at the University of Kansas, so head coaches Jon Lindaman and Eric Klingensmith both elected to enter junior varsity lineups for Tuesday’s meet.
North Polk won the girls’ title with 38 points. The Comets were led by Liza Schaffer, who placed second in the 5k race with a time of 20 minutes 40 seconds.
Ankeny finished with 197 points. Hannah Howard paced the Hawkettes, placing 39th in 24:08.
Dallas Center-Grimes won the boys’ crown with 36 points. North Polk was the runner-up with 60 points, led by second-place finisher Zach Sporaa.
The Hawks finished with 165 points. They were led by Sam Ducar, who took 30th in 19:04.
