Ankeny pitcher Easton Dunwoody has committed to play baseball for Simpson College next year.
Dunwoody said he picked the Storm over a few other schools.
“I looked at Grand View, Buena Vista and Northwestern–NAIA schools mainly–but was mostly talking to Grand View and Simpson,” said Dunwoody. “With Simpson, I just felt a sort of at home feeling and had a great connection with the coaching staff and players. That’s mainly what brought me toward them along with (teammate) Dylan (Schlee) possibly committing there soon.”
Dunwoody made 10 relief appearances for the Hawks as a junior. He compiled a 0.72 ERA with one save.
Ankeny went 32-7 and won the CIML Iowa Conference title with a perfect 20-0 record. The Hawks reached the Class 4A semifinals before losing to Johnston.
Dunwoody said he hopes to see some playing time right away for the Storm, whose roster also includes freshman infielder Lucas Juhl of Ankeny.
“I was told I could have an early impact as a pitcher,” he said. “If I can go the mile and stay consistent then hopefully I can be a starter, but if not then most likely I’ll be a reliever. If throughout this season I can get my bat going maybe I’ll have a shot at a starting position when I’m at Simpson as well.”
