The rainy weather has made things difficult for all of the Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial track teams.
The four squads are slated to compete in the Jim Duncan Invitational on April 11 at Drake Stadium, but the meet requires performance marks from this season in order to qualify.
“We are chasing the weather unfortunately,” said Ankeny girls’ coach TJ Jumper. “So with the Iowa weather we are trying to find meets in order to compete close to our full team at Jim Duncan.”
On Tuesday, the Hawkettes took two varsity relays along with distance standout Makenna Madetzke to the North Polk Relays. Madetzke won the 1,500 with a time of 4:42.96.

The Ankeny foursome of Quinn Roush, Charlee Cibula, Lena Bruening and Morgan Fisher won the sprint medley relay in 1:46.6. The Hawkettes broke the previous school record of 1:46.9.
Ankeny also captured the 4×200 relay in 1:44.24. The team of Cibula, Reagan Prendergast, Bruening and Fisher met the Blue Oval standard for the Drake Relays.
The Hawkettes competed against Gilbert, Mason City and North Polk.
“The rest of the teams were varsity even though we mainly competed with our JV,” Jumper said.
Ankeny will compete at the Indianola Quadrangular on Tuesday. The Hawkettes also added Monday’s Norwalk Invitational to their schedule.
“We looked at Tuesday’s temperatures and felt like it might get cancelled so we added Norwalk and hope to compete with about 10 athletes,” Jumper said. “But now Monday’s temps don’t look great. If both meets get cancelled, we will only be able to compete a small group of athletes at Jim Duncan because of their verification standard and Iowa weather. We would only truly have the Emporia meet and those relays from North Polk to use.”
